Moving out of Okotoks in 2017, I was looking for a community that truly felt like home – somewhere with friendly faces, beautiful pathways, parks, and playgrounds for the kids. Desert Blume checked all those boxes and more. Surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes of the coulees and wildlife to the wide-open fields of local farmland, pathways for running this place instantly became my happy place, and my cat's as well, lol.
Desert Blume is conveniently connected to S. Boundary Rd, which leads directly to the Cornerstone Outdoor Mall in Medicine Hat, just a short 3.5km away. Whether you’re heading out for a quick errand or enjoying the scenic drive with a beautiful sunset, everything you need is close by. Our Cypress County taxes are half of the taxes in Medicine Hat, at 0.054%, and the price range of homes in 2024 was from $550,000 - $1.3 mil.
Desert Blume Coomunity has an active Home Association and the board of 8 members. We have an active FB for Residents and HOA FB page. We host two annual events: Easter Egg Hunt and Spring BBQ.
As a board member since 2019, I’ve had the pleasure of helping to enhance our community by organizing events, updating bulletin boards, and supporting the board wherever needed. I firmly believe that social connections are key to happy lives and content communities - when residents actively engage in organizing and participating in community events, it fosters a sense of connection and pride within the neighborhood. This social cohesion not only creates a welcoming environment but also makes the area more attractive to potential buyers. Additionally, curb appeal—the first impression when you enter each of the four phases - gives a good first impression, that can drastically influence its market value.
Desert Blume is a charming community of around 275 homes, with each phase offering its own unique appeal. PHASE ONE started its builts in 2006, features 103 homes, including a mix of detached homes and duplexes. Here, you’ll find homes with views of the kids' park or facing the peaceful farmer’s fields along 61 Rg Rd. North-facing homes overlook South Boundary Rd, while homes backing onto the north are treated to views of the stunning Desert Blume Golf Course, starting at hole 11.
PHASE TWO, which began around 2009, added another 62 homes. Many of these homes back onto the golf course and have walk-out basements, with easy access to a nearby pathway that leads directly to the Desert Blume Clubhouse – a perfect spot for community events and gatherings.
In 2010, PHASE THREE was developed, with 39 homes offering various orientations. Some face east, overlooking 61 Range Rd., while others views of the golf course to the south and west. The main playground is located right on the edge of this phase, offering easy access for families. PHASE FOUR, still under construction, boasts at least another 70 homes, with west-facing homes looking out onto the coolies and golf course, while east-facing homes offer views of the park and 61A Rg Rd.
Our community is part of the Prairie Rose School Division #8, but parents also have the option to apply for school placement in the public school board (SD76) or the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education (MHCBE). We have four bus stops in the area for your convenience: https://www.southland.ca/medicinehat/
